BLOCKS OF THE MONTH
PREVIOUS YEARS'
PROJECTS
(This page is
"in progress"--watch for more photographs to appear!)
Over the years, the
group has presented at the monthly meetings various
Blocks of the Month projects.
These have ranged from traditional as well as
contemporary blocks, traditional
and new techniques for a variety of quilts
and quilt-related projects. The names following the year are the
people who
presented that
year's Block of the Month.
MYSTERY QUILT - 2007-2008
During the year we were given instructions each month for making
"units."
At the end of the year, we had made a "Chain of Events" quilt from Far
Flung Quilts by Carolyn Griffin who generously gave us permission to use
this pattern as our Block of the Month Mystery Quilt.

RED, WHITE AND
BLUE 2005-2006
This year we were challenged to make blocks or quilt tops using only red,
white and blue fabrics. The blocks made by members were sewn together
by Joan Budd and members made single-bed size quilt tops. Seven quilt
tops from our group were donated to the American Hero Quilts project.
This project was born out of the love and compassion
of one determined
Washington State woman. Her dream is that each
of our injured troops
returning home from war through
Madigan Army Medical Hospital and other
military hospitals,
receive a "hug" of appreciation. These "hugs" are
exceptional
patriotic, heirloom quality quilts. Each is unique, created by many
loving hands,
and many are long-arm quilted by the creator of this project.
The web site tells the story and shows photos of some of the quilts:

Here are some examples of our quilt tops:

Actually it was a
"challenge" to use the patterns handed out at the
monthly meetings on the theme "Girls Will Be Girls" -- shoes, hats,
purses, etc. Or come up with your own design. Be Creative with the theme!
Here are a few of the completed projects!

"Like everyone else in the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, I watched the
television in growing disbelief, horror, sadness and anger. I couldn't
sleep; I was sickened by the images of destruction. Two days passed and
then I felt the incredible need to create a quilt - to try and permanently
record in fabric what happened that day - the day that changed our world.
The quilt needed to be a memorial to all those who lost their lives at the
terrorists' hands. My quilt guild had just started a "row of the month"
project. This seemed like the perfect "pattern" to use since it was so
difficult to think, let alone create. In less than two weeks I had the
quilt top done and the creating of it proved to be greatly cathartic. When
I learned about America: From the Heart I hurried to finish the quilt so my
voice could be heard and perhaps my quilt would help in the healing process."
Pat made this quilt during the
aftermath of September 11. It was sent to Houston to be a part of a
special exhibition of these
type of quilts at the International Quilt Market and Quilt Festival. It was
sold with the proceeds going to help those in need
after this tragedy. These
photos were taken while the quilt was hanging in Houston at the exhibition.

CARRYING BAGS
-1999-2000 - Sara Jane

Plain bags were decorated through the year. A different technique was
demonstrated each month, such as prairie points, use of buttons, embroidery,
yo-yos, etc.
We were encouraged to find "treasures" to fit the theme of our bag to
put on it.
